Lucas's Surprise Early Arrival

I know I haven't posted in a while, but my pregnancy had been going really smoothly so the only thing really interesting happening was that I was getting fat (hahaha). But now, do we have a story to tell.....

I had still been working full time at the clinic and feeling great. A little tired daily, but I was like that before I got pregnant :) So, it was Friday and I was getting off work at 6:30 and didn't feel like cooking for dinner. I was 1 day away from being 38 weeks pregnant so I felt that a date with my husband that night for dinner was deserved.  We went and got some great mexican food for dinner and had a wonderful time. The weather was so nice outside when we got home that night so David wanted to go for a walk around our neighborhood. I thought it was a great idea so off we went.....2 miles later, it was definately time for bed (9 o'clock on a friday night, we were rebels)!  I was feeling great, just a little sore and fatigued, but I figured that was just cause we walked so much and I had worked all day. Little did I know that was only going to be the beginning of my evening, and David and my last moments as a family of 2!!

Now, if you don't want to know all the details....just go look at the cute baby pics and stop reading :)  It was about 3AM and I woke up having to pee (not an unusual occurrence being 9 months pregnant). Except this time I was having some light cramping, but nothing bad at all.  I laid back down, and got up 10 mintues later with the same routine, and again a bit later...a little strange. David finally woke up from all my getting up and downs, and we spent the next 30 minutes trying to decide what was going on.  David decided to straighten up the house while I decided if this was serious enoough for a trip to the hospital.  I remembered my OB telling me that if I started having contractions to wait until they were 5 minutes apart then come on into the hospital.  My handy dandy "Contraction Timer Ap" for the iPhone came into use (looking back at this monent, I pretty sure I was in denial at what was actually going down). David saw what I was doign and asked "what's it telling you"?? I simply replied "it said 1 minute, then it said 45 seconds, this stupid thing is broken!!!!!!"  I noticed the sudden concern on Davids face, so I got up to pee again and remove myself from the situation. 1 step, 2 steps, 3 steps toward the bathroom, then "pop" and "gush" down my leg.  Yep, it was time to go to the hospital...water breaking = Lucas comming!

That drive to the hospital is pretty much a blur to me. After my water broke was when the pains got really bad and all I felt was agonizing pressure like a bowling ball was about to drop out of me.  David said I was doing some yelling, some moaning, and would occasionally bang on the windows of the car to help relieve the pain.  I was wheelchaired in to the hospital and quickly placed on a gurney and rushed up to labor and delivery, all a blur of pain and pressure.

It was 4AM when I was finally changed and in my hospital bed. The L&D nurse was watching me diligently and said "girl...I know you aren't pushing yet, that is not allowed", so she decided to check me so she knew when to call my doctor in. Her next words will forever be burned into my ears. She said "oh my, you are fully dilated and this baby is comming.  Lets hope the doctor gets here before this baby does!"  So there I was, in full labor and apparently had been pushing during the entire car ride to the hospital.  My first words to the nurse were "ok, can I have my epidural?" which was promptly followed by a "no honey its too late for that, this baby is coming now!!"  Dr.Carpenter got there just in time and long story short (well, short story shorter) Lucas came into this world, after just 3 pushes, at 5:15 AM.  Not having an epidural gives you lots of motivation to push them out really quick (within the hour to be exact)!!!!

Here is our perfect little man! Lucas Monnier Nonnenmacher, born 1/21/2012, 7 pounds even, 22 inches long.
